Saw Blades

Lyng Drilling employs its expertise in development of cutting structures for efficient slotting of carbon anodes using patented saw blade technology.

Patented Saw Blade Technology for Anode Slotting

Saw Blades

Saw Blades are circular discs with cutting edges places along the periphery. The geometry and the material of the cutting edges have been optimized to reduce the wear and to increase the life of the cutting elements. The proprietary design of saw blades also features slits or holes for better stability and for mitigating thermal stresses.  These slits ensure that the thermal expansion in the outer area does not affect the flatness of the saw blade and provide dampening of impacts that may occur in  tangential direction during the slotting process.

Lyng Saw blade life is typically 40000 to 50000 anodes with a single set of cutters under standard operating conditions. Saw blade life of up to 120,000 anodes have been achieved with optimized operating conditions.

Lyng Drilling offers saw blades in full-blade or half-blade configurations as per individual machine operator’s mounting specifications. Mounting holes allow the saw blades to be mounted on a spindle in a machining unit or processing machine.  Saw blades are available in diameters ranging from 900 mm to 1350 mm.

The saw blade part description is typically: LD XXXX-ABCSB DE-FG, where

    • XXXX refers to the outer diameter of the saw blade,
    • ABC refer to the inner diameter of the saw blade,
    • DE refers to the slot width,
    • FG refers to the number of cutters on the blade.

For example, LD 1340-250SB 09-54 has a saw blade of 1340 mm, with inner diameter of 250 mm, and makes a slot width of 9 mm using 54 cutters.
